Last week’s newsletter promised a "magical time" to anyone who attended Sobotka, Polish Happy Hour at the Gardens on June 10th. And the crowd of more than 125 guests was not disappointed! The lovely Café Terrace at Fellows Riverside Gardens in Mill Creek Park was alive with chatter, both in English and Polish. "Mother Nature" also helped with one of the most beautiful nights of the season, to insure that our St. John’s Eve Celebration was perfect! Many guests enjoyed making wreaths decorated with candles and flowers to be set afloat on Lake Glacier at twilight. Others enjoyed wonderful Polish foods prepared by Chef George Weino of The Georgetown. Of course, almost all the merry-makers sipped on special drinks befitting the occasion. The Ciekawa Prawiczka or “Curious Maiden” made with Adamba’s Bison Grass Vodka was the popular drink of the night. But as always, the clink of bottles was heard all evening as Zywiec Beer was toasted, tasted and thoroughly enjoyed! Honkie Rocky and the Jammers provided live music, and many danced to the polka tunes. As dusk settled on the crowd, our Polish Happy Hour Chairman, Tom Kusiowski II, headed down to Lake Glacier with Ray Novotny of Mill Creek Park to float the wreaths on the water. Guests ran to the railings of the terrace to watch the flickering candles on the wreaths glide across the water. A beautiful sight it was! Then we really “got happy” as song sheets were passed out and groups of singers filled the air with Polish melodies. The night ended with promises that we would be back next year for this special event. Everyone enjoyed the evening to the fullest. A special "thank you" to Arlene Lanz, Linda Kostka and Anita Wesler of Mill Creek MetroParks for all their help in making our St. John’s Eve Celebration a perfect one. Polish Youngstown’s Tom Kusiowski II, Ken Giba and Ken Shirilla did another great job of planning our Polish Happy Hour. Thanks, guys. You’re the Best!
