PHH moving to Café Cimmento

The economy is still rough here in the Mahoning Valley…case in point All Starz Sports Grille, the north side’s only locally owned sports theme restaurant, and our planned host for tomorrow’s Happy Hour closed last weekend. But fear not, that never stops your PolishYoungstown team. Our friend George at Café Cimmento downtown is ready and waiting for us.  So join us on Thursday, April 14th 5:30- 9 PM. As a special bonus, we will benefit from Team members recent trip to Chicago with some special goodies…Tatra beer and Debowa Vodka, made with black elder flower and a sliver of oak tree. Hell, we liked grass in our vodka so why not a piece of wood! We may have changed locations but our non-profit partner is still the same. In honor of National Hunger Awareness Month we are working with Saint Vincent de Paul. Bring a non-perishable donation for the SVdep Food Bank and get entered into a drawing for a free dinner at Café Cimmento!

John Paul II Beatification
The faithful in Poland and Roman Catholic Church leaders are releasing specifics about the beatification of the Polish-born Pope John Paul II. Locally, PolishYoungstown reaching out to local churches and Catholic schools to share the info about the study guide that is available to help young people re-discover the Pope and his teachings.  On Saturday, April 30th at 4 PM at St. Casimir Church on Youngstown’s north side we are coordinating with the Diocese of Youngstown to host a celebration mass and vigil in celebration of this event. Following mass, thanks to underwriting from Kinnick Funeral Homes, there will be a reception with Polish food and drink (perhaps even featuring Karol Wojtyła’s favorite dessert Kremówka papieska).  After eating, we are screening of the recently released Newt & Callista Gingrich film Nine Days that Changed the World.  This documentary tells the story of Pope John Paul II’s historic nine-day pilgrimage to Poland in June 1979.  It story of human liberation-especially pertinent during this time of turmoil in Libya and other Middle Eastern countries-reveals the extraordinary power of John Paul II’s worldwide message of freedom through faith. The event is free but a free-will offering will be taken to defray expenses. To RSVP for this FREE event, call (330) 744-5233 or email info@polishyoungstown.com. Mark your calendars now! More info here.

Spring Flowers
We had a burst of spring last week and it got us all excited to start planting in the yard…then the weather got cold and wet again. But it’s bound to improve soon so if you want to plant, we can help you now!  As their last costume fundraiser of the year, the Krakowiaki Polish Folk Circle is doing a Spring Flower Sale. All online, all quality items delivered directly to your door. And, most importantly, for every purchase made on this site Flower Power Fundraising will give 50% back to the Krakowiaki costume fund! Check it out here.

Remember: If you are observing meatless Fridays, support your local Polish churches-not the freezer case-and enjoying tasty pierogi. It will certainly make it less of a sacrifice. We suggest you preorder because it gets busy this time of year. Call 330-747-3024 for St. Stanislaus and 330-755-1316 for St. Joseph the Provider.
