Summer vacation is almost over and the dog days of summer are here. For your PolishYoungstown team that doesn’t mean rest and relaxation. Far from it! Instead we are all energized on the countdown to Polish Day on August 29th.  I hope you have marked your calendar to join us for all the excitement. Some of this year’s big attractions include: modified polka mass at 11:30 with Most Reverend Bishop George Murry; polka lessons, three folk dance performances and a pierogi eating contest! Details and updates are available HERE. We are working hard to address last year’s challenges…this year there will be two food lines and a separate Take Out window out back; vendors will be nearby in a huge tent; and we’ve added a third more tables! Want to get in on the fun for free? We are still looking for volunteers.

But there is more fun before that happens! This Thursday August 12th is our annual Polish Happy Hour Cornhole Tournament. This year we will be on the great patio at Shakers in Liberty.  Prizes, Zywiec and Sobieski drink specials and giveaways will be part of the fun! Come join us to catch up on your PHH friends and hear the latest about our plans for Polish Day and the fall.

Not everyone has been lounging this summer.  Stanley Gerchak, the AM Polish Language instructor, took 1st Place in the Great Lakes Gaelic Mod for superior Gaelic language. In addition to Polish and Scottish Gaelic, he is fluent in Croatian, and also has studied Spanish, Italian and Russian. Gratulacje Stasiu!  That is a good reminder that it is time to start planning for back to school…this fall we are hoping to expand our Tuesday Polish language classes to offer children’s classes, beginner and advanced beginner. Updated info and registration forms should be available soon.

Thanks go out to Team Member Kenneth Giba who celebrated Polish Youngstown's recent acquisition of a provisional non-profit status.  Ken donated a sound system in memory of his uncle, Rev. William P. Slipski, Pastor Emeritus of St. Casimir Church on Jefferson Street in Brier Hill. This cumbersome effort allows such donations to be tax deductible.  Perhaps you too may be inspired to contribute to our mission. Obtain further details on donating by speaking by calling (330) 646-4082 or speaking to any PolishYoungstown team member.

COMING UP: Summer means ethnic in the Mahoning Valley… Simply Slavic Festival committee will be having a meeting on Tuesday, August 10th, 6:30p.m. at Cafe Cimmento, downtown… on August 14th & 15th is Gathering of the Irish Clans at St. Maron's Pavilion and Recreation area. Always a good time, but this year they bringing back the crazy men of Ceann both days… After being gone for too long, Larry Walk’s Penn-Ohio Polka Festival is back! The “dream team of polka bands” will gather August 20-21 at the Beach Club at Conneaut Lake Park in nearby Conneaut, PA. It is sure to be a great time!

Do Zobaczenia!
