The next Polish Happy Hour Youngstown will be held TODAY
Thursday, July 9th starting at 5:30 PM at:
On the Patio
1719 Belmont Ave
Youngstown, OH 44504
Up from downtown just past St. Elizabeth’s Hospital
Last week our friends Fr. Joe Rujak, pastor at Sts Peter & Paul in Youngstown, and Mary Kay Pieski, president of the Kosciusko Foundation NE Ohio chapter left for Poland. They are both participating in the Foundation’s popular Teaching English in Poland Program. They will be gone more than three weeks teaching middle and high school level students in an immersion style setting. They also will sightsee, visit family and experience Poland. For more info click HERE.
Their adventure made us think that maybe we should start thinking about taking an adventure of our own….If Zywiec taste this good here, how would it taste at the Brewery in Krakow? By touring the distillery in Bialystok, can we learn the secrets that make Polish vodka so renowned?
So this month we will be exploring the concept of a summer tour trip in 2010 with Mitch Benia, owner of Kniola Travel in Slavic Village, Cleveland. Mitch has made the trip numerous times and has planned it for others hundreds times more. He will have ideas for us on a customized, multigenerational trip that will take us behind the scenes as well as hits the hot spots.
Our concertina friends have been organizing and practicing all month and can’t wait to show you what they’ve put together. They are looking for a standing bass player and drummer to join in the fun too. So if that’s you, jump on in!
But, of course, it will be easier to plan, sing and dance if we are enjoying some of our favorite beverages ….
One beer is never enough with the selection like you have the The Avalon so our featured brews will be both Poland’s most popular beer Żywiec, as well as southeastern Poland’s regional brew, Okocim.
Since we missed it last time, our featured vodka will be the stylish Bison Grass. Known in Polish as Żubrówka, this brand of wisent -flavored vodka is distilled from rye and mixed with a tincture made of grass grown in Eastern Poland’s Białowieża Forest. The rich flavor qualities of this unique vodka will be highlighted in our signature drink, the Bison Mojito.
Of course when there are beverages and music there has to be Polish food. But you can’t go to the Avalon and not enjoy the pizza…so just for us they will be providing make pierogi pizza for the evening! How do you say that in Polish? Accompanying that will be some tasty, homemade grilled kielbasa finished off by some słodkie for dessert. As always, your donation for this repast is greatly appreciated.
Don’t forget to join us or at least look for us in the Canfield 4th of July Parade Saturday morning. We are lining up at 9 AM in position 39 at the fairgrounds and will parade to the village green. Great way to kick off the weekend!
