Wigilia 2011 A Success

On behalf of Mary Ann Mylnarski, president of the Polish Arts Club of Youngstown, a BIG Thank You!!!..to so many of you who came out and supported the Club's annual WIGILIA. The event was an enchanting way to celebrate our community's Polish Christmas made even more so being at The Youngstown Club.

It was a really lovely afternoon honoring old Polish Christmas traditions and customs with some modern day twists! Many people were surprised with what the melted wax was saying about their future during the Andrzejki festivities during cocktails.

I expected the interactive theatre presentation of the traditional Jaselka to be fun and lively, but we didn't expect to be so moved by it, too. For example, seeing Alexandria Copich representing her ancestors by wearing a Kurpie headpiece and carrying honey to the Christ Child was very poignant.

It accomplished more than even organizers had hoped in terms of integrating our heritage into the traditional story. See pics from the event HERE.
